Bringing heart and mind into alignment about
where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’re going.

Life is hard, and often leaves us wounded… with core beliefs, formed from pain, that constrict us, and with emotional scars that haven’t healed. We meet the present with bitterness, with rigid patterns of response to others, and we’re tired.

About

For some of us, it was that insult we heard when we were young, and so unprepared for when it struck. For others of us, it was being exposed to the daily dangers of abuse. For some, a recent scary car accident. For others, the loss of that most important person in our life.

Now it may be surfacing as depression or anxiety.
Or as a loss of physical wellbeing.

Yes, medical research has finally confirmed what we already knew inside . . . Our imperfect childhoods as well as other difficult life experiences have left our hearts, minds, and bodies at risk for developing distressing symptoms. Shockingly, these studies have shown that those of us burdened with multiple traumatic life experiences may not only face significant illness but also a shortened life span. Our bodies simply don’t do well carrying so much emotional pain.

Psychotherapy, and taking steps towards healing heart and mind, may no longer a luxury. It may be foundational in your journey towards both emotional and physical wellbeing.

What can I offer you? First, a compassionate response based both on who you are as a unique individual and on the centrality of my client-centered approach in working with people. We are human beings, with human needs, above all else. In my more than 30 years of experience, I have yet to meet someone who hasn’t wanted their humanity, and their strengths and values affirmed, along with their problems being recognized and discussed. Emotions and thoughts are equally attended to . . . we only sustain our changes when both are in alignment.

Your specific concerns determine where we go next. Sometimes we’re pragmatic and dust off problem-solving skills in taking another look at the issues. Sometimes we go deep, and psychodynamically explore those defenses that helped us survive our childhood but that now keep us from experiencing our true selves. Sometimes we work with the fight/flight nervous system and its switch, that has seemingly gotten stuck in the “on” position. Sometimes we work with interpersonal relationships that are causing us heartache. Sometimes we turn to NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback, for a gentle assist in reducing anxiety, or improving focus, or in moving away from trauma.
